An Issued Indiana Statewide Disaster Emergency Following Severe Weather and Flooding
In response to severe weather, tornadic activity, and flooding events that impacted Indiana beginning August 11, 2026, Executive Order 26-21 declared a statewide disaster emergency. The Indiana Department of Insurance Bulletin 280 directs insurers to implement a 60-day moratorium on certain policy cancellations and non-renewals for policyholders directly affected by the disaster.
The moratorium applies statewide and is effective August 11, 2026, through October 16, 2026. During this period, affected policyholders may be eligible for relief related to premium payment deadlines and policy cancellation protections.
